The Road to EuroBasket Women 2025: France’s Qualifying Group Draws Revealed with Ireland, Latvia, and Israel

FIBA carried out the draw yesterday in Mies (Switzerland) for the qualifying groups for EuroBasket Women 2025, the Blue’s next major continental event. In the program ? Ireland, Latvia and Israel. Three rather affordable training courses, which should nevertheless not be underestimated.

The road that will lead Les Bleues to Euro 2025 is still long. Just a few months after the Bronze adventure which left a bitter taste in the selection, particularly around coach Jean-Aimé Toupane. This has been confirmed by the French Basketball Federation until 2024, so we must now start working on the first matches of this qualifying group.

And the schedule is busy. No less than six matches, spread over two years, all over Europe. The Blues will, however, have the luxury of starting at home, near the Arena Futuroscope in Poitiers, on November 9 against Latvia. They will then fly to the green landscapes of Ireland to play against Eire on November 12. Besides, here is the overall program.

Thursday November 9, 2023: France – Latvia (Poitiers) Sunday November 12, 2023: Ireland – France Thursday November 7, 2024: France – Israel Sunday November 10, 2024: Latvia – France Thursday February 6, 2025: France – Ireland Sunday February 9, 2025: Israel – France

The group will inevitably change a lot over the course of the matches, and the advantage of having weaker opponents – on paper – is to be able to use these international windows to test new things. Will Toupane still be at the head of the team? Nothing is less certain, but what we can already say is that the squad that will begin the phase and the squad that will finish it will be profoundly different. Moreover, reminder of the rules: four teams, the first automatically qualified for the Euro and the second only if it is one of the four best seconds in all the groups. For the two teams at the end of the table, it’s ciao.
