Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told CNN on the 15th that about 2,500 to 3,000 Ukrainian troops have been killed and about 10,000 wounded in the seven-week war with Russia.
The Russian-Ukrainian war is now entering its eighth week, and Archyde.com reported that Zelensky said between 19,000 and 20,000 Russian soldiers had been killed in the war. Moscow authorities said last month that 1,351 Russian troops were killed and 3,825 wounded.
The fighting is fierce in Mariupol, a port city in southeastern Ukraine, with Ukraine saying it is trying to break through the Russian siege of the city. Malibo, which had a population of about 400,000 before the war, is now in ruins. Thousands of civilians have died and tens of thousands of people are still trapped.
“The situation in Malipo is quite difficult, fighting is taking place at this moment, and the Russian army has been gathering more troops to storm the city,” Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanyk told a briefing. He said that the Russian side has not yet fully controlled Malibo.
Russia claimed to have attacked a factory on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv that manufactures and repairs anti-ship missiles after the Moskva, the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, exploded and sank. The Ukrainian side said that one of its missiles caused the sinking of the Moskva, which is a powerful symbol of resistance to well-armed Russia.
A senior U.S. official said the U.S. believed the Moscow was hit by two Ukrainian missiles and that there were casualties on the Russian side, but the number was unknown.
