The Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic received the United States Ambassador

Ms. Sandra Ablamba Johnson, Minister, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic met, on August 02, 2022, with the Ambassador of the United States to Togo, Ms. Elizabeth Fitzsimmons. The two personalities mainly discussed the upcoming summit of USA-Africa leaders and issues relating to the implementation of the reforms of the Threshold Program at the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The Minister, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic and the Ambassador of the United States also discussed topics related to regional security.

Ms. Elizabeth Fitzsimmons congratulated Togo for the multiple reforms that have enabled the country to achieve good performance in Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) eligibility.

The United States Ambassador also hailed the diligent security measures taken by the Togolese government to fight against terrorism in the North of the country.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic, praised the quality of the relations of friendship and cooperation between Washington and Lomé, and the support of the United States to the Togolese government in maintaining maritime security and the implementation of development programs. She reaffirmed Togo’s commitment which, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, is part of a dynamic of reforms, the benefits of which today go beyond the resources that the country can hope from the MCC.

The United States and Togo are developing a multifaceted partnership in several areas including security, diplomacy, economy, trade, education, health and agriculture.

The two countries are committed to strengthening this cooperation, with a view to preserving their common interests.
