Four African heads of state met on Saturday February 12 in Oyo, 400 kilometers north of Brazzaville. They discussed issues of peace and security in the Great Lakes region and recent coups in three West African countries.

Presidents Denis Sassou-Nguesso of Congo, host of the summit, Félix Tshisekedi of DRC, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Faure Gnassinbé of Togo expressed their full support joint military operations engaged by Ugandan and Congolese armed forces in eastern DRC. These operations aim to eradicate the rebels of the Armed Democratic Forces ».

According to a diplomatic source who confided in RFI, it is now a question of “ close ranks to make roadblock to ADF who have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and now seem determined to impose their law in the countries of the Congo Basin ».

Support for ECOWAS

The four leaders also support the measures taken by ECOWAS against Burkina, Guinea and Mali, countries shaken by coups. According to another diplomatic source, the Heads of State of Central Africa are seeking to better understand what is happening in West Africa in order to protect themselves against it.

In addition to questions of peace and security, Yoweri Museveni came to discuss with Denis Sassou-Nguesso, in charge this year of the rotating presidency of OPEC, the future extraction of oil in Lake Albert.
