The newborn was found by a neighbor in a vacant lot in the Roberto Romero neighborhood; immediately, she contacted the authorities upon learning of the presence of a baby in the place. The minor was found in a state of abandonment with a degree of hypothermia and no trace of her captors, who, according to the hospital managers, were a couple who took the baby, changed her pink blanket for a light blue one and quickly fled. from the health center.

The minor was born yesterday afternoon through a natural birth at the Juan Domingo Perón Hospital in Tartagal, a town located about 365 kilometers north of the capital of Salta and just 50 kilometers from the border with Bolivia.

For this reason, it had not yet been registered. However, the local outlet Nuevo Diario referred to her as “Estrella” once she was found.

She and her mother were in a room in the Maternity Ward of the health institution. At one point, the baby’s parents, Ángel Torres and Elsa Eugenia Abraham, retired to the bathroom and, just five minutes later, they noticed that the girl had disappeared. They immediately notified the staff.

A doctor on duty became aware of what had happened and immediately notified the security team, as well as reported the fact to 911, as reported through a press release.

Torres and Abraham, who belong to a Wichi community in the town of General Mosconi, described a woman in a brown jacket, with short hair, who they saw loitering in the maternity ward with a strange attitude, according to local media reports.

From the health center, they reported that it is the first time that a newborn has disappeared in the hospital. In addition, the Legal Affairs area filed a formal complaint with the Tartagal prosecutor’s office, which is already carrying out the investigation.

The police became aware of the fact at 7:16 a.m., just 11 minutes after the family became aware of the abduction of the minor. Consequently, a search operation was deployed in the hospital and in the different means of transport and routes, in charge of the National Gendarmerie and the Federal Police.
