The Sierras will add this week the largest movement of the July holidays

“The strong moment is beginning,” assured this Sunday in Villa Carlos Paz the beachgoers of a service station located on Avenida San Martín, the gateway to the city.

You know what they are talking about: this “weekend” began the week in which all the Argentine provinces are simultaneously on winter school break. This situation ensures that the tourist movement will be much greater than in the first one that already happened, and in which Córdoba and 14 other provinces were on vacation in July. But it will also be greater than the last of the month in which eight provinces will be on recess.

This week that now begins, also adds vacations in three key districts for the Cordoba mountains: Federal Capital, Buenos Aires and Santa Fe.

That is why the expectation of a good movement is growing, after a “quiet” week in which only some mountain destinations took off a bit and in which most of the visitors were the people of Cordoba themselves. In addition, the cold and the rain did not accompany to add movement.

Some impressions and projections

In Villa Carlos Paz, already on the weekend the average hotel occupancy reached 60%, much more than in the previous days. According to Germán Livelli, director of events for the local Ministry of Tourism, the occupancy of the highest categorized hotels amounts to 100% in the first days of the “holidays of all the provinces.” In those of lower hierarchy, which are the majority of the offer, the average is much lower.

Eduardo Giordano, president of the Chamber of Tourism of Carlos Paz, also said that the four-star hotel is “full”, as has been the case on almost all long weekends.

The greatest influx of this second week compared to the first one can be seen in the streets and avenues of the largest tourist city in Cordoba. There is also good news in the gastronomic area: Marcos Bertorello, from the Junior B restaurant chain, stated that the growth in demand was notable this weekend. “We hope this week will be as good as it promises,” he said in reference to the start of the vacations for Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires.

In the rest of the Punilla Valley, the occupation also began to grow from Saturday. In La Falda, occupancy is around 65% in hotels and 70% in cabins, and the numerous union colonies are also experiencing a good moment with 75% of occupied places.

The Secretary of Tourism of La Falda, Luciana Pacha, commented that they hope to maintain good numbers with one of the most important events on the calendar of winter activities in the Sierras: the National Tango Festival, which will take place on July 21 and 22 in the Carlos Gardel Amphitheater.

Not all mountain destinations work the same in winter

“The holidays are taking shape as of this week, with a much more important occupation; The first week was rather calm”, summed up Alejandro Kobelt, hotelier from Santa Rosa and member of the Calamuchita Gastronomic Hotel Business Association.

He clarified that the panorama is very diverse between establishments (those that provide the most services are on point) and between localities, with a better impact in Villa General Belgrano and La Cumbrecita, in relation to the rest, and as usual every winter.

“This weekend the occupation was much better, those categorized are at 99% and the general average at 75%,” said the Secretary of Tourism and Culture of Villa General Belgrano, Gabriela Cachayu. Those “not categorized” tilt the average down, since, in winter, and due to low temperatures, people seek more services. And those who go on vacation in July are the ones with the greatest economic power.

For this week, in Villa General Belgrano they expect an average of 70%. “We see that the day to day is changing and that people specify the reservation at the last minute,” said Cachayu.

Mountain destinations that place their central attraction on rivers and lakes in winter lose chances.

For example, the director of Tourism of Villa Rumipal, said that in that town next to the lake, the occupation is at 36%, below other seasons. “It rose a little these days, but it was not significant, I estimate that it can increase between 5 and 10 more points, but far from approaching winters with occupancy of more than 60%,” he said.

“Logically, there are specific destinations in Córdoba more than winter, but they are very few,” he launched. And he continued listing reasons: “The national economic crisis, the loss of market at this time due to strong competition from other provinces with snow and the lack of strengthening the air channel for Cordoba count.”

In Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, the town with the largest offer of hotel beds, occupancy for the first week was 25% and climbed to 45% since last Saturday. “For this week we have more expectations, with the Sabores Serranos event and for the holidays of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires and Santa Fe,” said Emanuel Rossi, from the local Trade Center.

La Cumbrecita is one of the Cordovan destinations with the best profile for winter tourism.

Juan Busaniche, from Turismo de La Cumbrecita, said that the reserve climbed to 85% for this strong week, rising from 70% in the first seven days. Meanwhile, for the last stretch of July it is already down again towards 45%, at least until now.

In the Traslasierra valley, with disparate occupancy levels depending on the localities, a difference is also perceived that they represent, it will stretch from this Sunday until the next.

Some prices in July

In Carlos Paz, the theaters that have works on the bill start with tickets of 1,500 pesos in children’s shows, and from there up. The amusement parks, meanwhile, have varied prices: Pekos Multiparque, for example, raises a rate of 8,000 pesos for people over 7 years of age and 3,300 pesos for children between 0 and 6 years of age.

In La Falda, the National Tango Festival has general tickets from 5,000 pesos

In Calamuchita, the Arca de Noé theme park charges 4,800 pesos for admission in July and its similar Quaras has a fee of 4,500 pesos.

The Alpine Chocolate Festival, in Villa General Belgrano is with free admission: there, the portion of cake costs 1,300 pesos and a glass of chocolate 700.

In Villa Cura Brochero the entrance to the Brocheriano Museum costs 500 pesos for adults and for the Brochero Santo theme park it costs 1,200 pesos.

The accommodations have very varied prices but have increased significantly since last summer. For two people, a hotel can average between 15,000 and 30,000 pesos in the Sierras in the middle ranges, although in the categorized ones they climb towards 60,000. A cabin for four people in July can be between 12,000 and 45,000 per night.
