The smallest details on the biggest screen: how Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K displays stunning images

A bigger TV screen is usually a good thing. Over time, TVs with large screens have not only become more affordable, but also increasingly popular with consumers. They allow viewers to fully immerse themselves in the content they are watching, as advances in technology in movies, series, games and all kinds of content now allow our favorite stories to come to life on screen in more realistic ways.

However, simply having a larger screen doesn’t always result in a hyper-realistic viewing experience. As we enter the age of ultra-large TVs, Samsung Electronics has been upgrading its display technology to deliver the best home entertainment. To learn more about these changes, Samsung Newsroom explores three key features that make watching your favorite content on the big screen exceptional.

8K Resolution: The Key to Unlocking the Full Potential of Bigger TVs

Although screen sizes are getting bigger and bigger, that doesn’t mean that the image quality is the best by default. If the TV screen size were increased without regard to the number of pixels, the resulting image would be blurry, low resolution, and overall much worse.

▲ If the number of pixels does not change, image quality is compromised as screens get larger.

To improve image quality, space on a larger screen must be filled with more pixels. As such, Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K has four times as many pixels as 4K TVs. This means that even on ultra-large screens, Samsung TV’s true 8K resolution maintains premium picture quality with densely packed Mini LEDs and up-to-date processing.

While Samsung is at the forefront of evolving display trends by leading the era of ultra-large TVs, the brand is also innovating the technologies that make it possible. The two driving forces improving image quality for Samsung’s latest Neo QLED 8K are the 8K Quantum Neural Processor, which analyzes and optimizes content to make full use of the 33 million pixels, and the Quantum Matrix Technology Pro, which uses a multitude of technologies to provide precise control for each of the Mini LEDs.

8K Neural Quantum Processor: Enhancing resolution, color and depth with 64 neural networks

While Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs offer the best picture quality on the market, not all content is readily available in 8K. To ensure every detail comes to life on screen, Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K is powered by the latest generation 8K Neural Quantum Processor to upscale lower resolution content in real-time. Samsung’s 8K Quantum Neural Processor uses 64 different neural networks to analyze video and optimize image quality. The processor is trained to recognize underlying patterns and relationships in images, improving quality from low to high resolution by comparing your original set with the results processed in each neural network.

While higher resolution sources create better image outputs, there may be sources that come in standard definition (SD or 480p), high definition (HD or 720p), or full high definition (FHD or 1080p). With Samsung’s 8K Neural Quantum Processor, series and movies will be upscaled to stunning 8K resolution, the most immersive picture yet.

Samsung’s advanced processor also powers innovations like Auto HDR Remastering, a feature that takes full advantage of the display’s wide color gamut and incredible maximum brightness. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology analyzes each scene to make it more colorful and vivid, bringing out details in bright and dark spots.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) video formats the display using a wider range of colors with brighter highlights when compared to standard dynamic range content. That means with Auto HDR Remastering — and the extraordinary contrast powered by Quantum Matrix Technology Pro with Quantum Dot technology — everything you watch is more compelling.

Samsung’s Neo QLED 8K also offers Real Depth Enhancer Pro. With updated AI deep learning, Real Depth Enhancer Pro identifies where the viewer is looking on the screen and brings that object to the foreground. With the on-screen images separated from the background, you can see a more three-dimensional image. Additionally, the Neural Quantum Processor provides a sense of depth paired with incredible levels of detail and vivid color reproduction, immersing the user in whatever they choose to watch.

Quantum Matrix Technology Pro: Maximum precision with Quantum Mini LEDs and 14-bit processing

Another critical technology feature powering the Neo QLED 8K image is Quantum Matrix Technology Pro which uses Quantum Mini LEDs to improve black levels and contrast with precise backlight control.

The Quantum Mini LED is 1/40 the size of a conventional LED. This creates a screen that is more densely packed with LEDs, improving picture quality while maintaining the vibrant colors and bright highlights of the Neo QLED 8K TV.

To provide the best image quality, 14-bit HDR processing allows for maximized contrast, expressing unimaginable levels of detail in the lightest and darkest parts of the image. This ensures that even the finest details are visible to users in every scene.

Additionally, Quantum Matrix Technology powers Samsung’s Shape Adaptive Light Control. This feature precisely adjusts the backlight to accommodate what’s on the screen, improving the clarity of whatever is watched. Because the backlight control is so precise, it prevents blooming — or when bright light from objects on the screen leaks into darker areas around it. As a result, bright highlights stay bright and dark scenes stay dark with more detail than ever before.

Expanding consumer use of TV

In short, 8K resolution fills ultra-large screens with much more density, while the 8K Neural Quantum Processor and Quantum Matrix Technology work together to create a cinema-worthy picture. Crisp details, accurate colors, optimal contrast and a realistic sense of depth enable the Neo QLED 8K to deliver stunning picture quality to delight all consumers.
