The sparsely populated Catalan territories want regional mobility

Sixteen of the 42 Catalan counties have asked the Department of Health of the Generalitat and the Procicat to advance the extension of the weekend confinement and that by the bridge of the Puríssima the mobility within the less populated counties of Catalonia is allowed. Although they belong to distant and diverse territories, they all have some features in common: most are made up of small and medium-sized villages. that they do not have all the basic services and that the few establishments that there are, if they can only open for the neighbors of the municipality, will not be able to surpass the red numbers that accumulate by the pandemic.

“Since people can’t leave the municipality, what does he do? He buys through companies like Amazon to take him home. These companies are doing in August and those in the territory are having a very bad time,” explains the president. of the county council of Segrià and mayor of Maials, David Masot (JxCat).

The first to make the lawsuit was the mayor of Sort, Raimon Monterde (Som Poble), who in early November requested that county mobility be allowed over the weekend arguing that the Pallars Sobirà has a density of 5 inhabitants per km2 and that in all the region live about 7,000 neighbors. Quickly The rest of the municipalities of Pallars Sobirà and the county councils of Pallars Jussà, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya, Alta Ribagorça and Ripollès joined his demand.

Besides, Recently, the counties of Gironès, Alt Empordà, La Selva, La Garrotxa, Pla de l’Estany, Solsonès, La Segarra, Baix Penedès, Les Garrigues and El Segrià have made the same request. All of them request that the county confinement for the weekend – planned in the opening plan from December 9 – be brought forward in order to adapt the health restrictions to the reality of living outside the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
