The St. Pölten “Mouse Hole” is passable again

by Alexandra Hartman Editor-in-Chief

The old “mouse hole” had changed over the past few decades made a reputation as a danger point – at least for one or the other side mirror. Car bodies also suffered a few scratches in the 2.5 meter wide tunnel.

But that’s history now: the railway underpass is now 11 meters wide instead of 2.5 meters. These are divided into a three meter wide cycle and footpath, a six and a half meter wide roadway and a one and a half meter wide sidewalk. In addition, vehicles with a height of up to 3.5 meters can now drive through here. This means that buses can also pass through the tunnel.

Final road surface coming next year

In order for the underpass to be roadworthy once more, the new bridge support structure first had to be installed and the line renewal and road construction work completed.
