As of November 7, 2022, the Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3) will have a new trading hours for the spot market, from 10:00 am to 5:55 pm. The reason for the change is the end of daylight saving time in the United States, on November 6th.
Aftermarket changes
According to the statement released by B3, there will be no after-market, which is the period in which investors can send orders to buy and sell shares and other assets after the closing time of the main trading session. Currently, the after-market takes place from 5 pm to 6 pm.
As of November 7th, post-trading will only take place on option expiration days. The Ibovespa futures trading will take place from 9 am to 6:25 pm.
The change in B3 trading hours takes place every year to monitor the operation of the market in the United States. The main reason is the significant volume of trading by foreigners on the Brazilian stock exchange. In March 2023, when American summer time begins, the trading session of the Brazilian Stock Exchange should close again at 5:00 p.m.
