The strict rule that Elizabeth II imposes on her family at the table

People and royalty

A new rule to add to the long list imposed on the British royal family.

This is not new, the British royal family is subject to many protocols, sometimes very strict. In the way of dressing, of behaving in society, and even at the table. Indeed, a rule put in place by Queen Elizabeth II for her relatives has just been unveiled. According to information from the British daily The Mirror who quotes a royal expert, the sovereign would not allow her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to take their mobile phones during meal times. She asks them to “sit well and not eat with their mouths open”.

If this last rule was unknown until now, there are others which are, on the contrary, known to all, in particular with regard to the time of the meal. Thus, the protocol stipulates that no one has the right to touch their plate once the queen has finished her meal. Children are also obliged to eat at a different table from that of the adults during the Christmas meal. We can also cite the fact that the royal family is not allowed to eat certain shellfish or drink tap water in the countries they visit. Finally, even more surprisingly, garlic and onions are limited during meals to avoid having bad breath during official greetings.
