The Success Story of Harry Kane at FC Bayern: Record-Breaking Goals and Leadership

Harry Kane’s record transfer to FC Bayern, which cost almost 100 million euros, was accompanied by huge euphoria last summer, but also some critical voices. Looking back, the former Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge feels vindicated in his decision for the deal.

“I was sure from the start that it would work,” Rummenigge made clear in an interview with the “German Press Agency” and described the goalscorer as a stroke of luck.

Kane has scored an incredible 25 goals in 22 competitive games for the German record champions, as well as eight assists for teammates.

But Rummenigge doesn’t just praise the Englishman for that. “What impresses me most about Harry is his team-friendly style of play. He goes every meter, he’s not above running. And that also attracts the others. The goals are just part of his quality,” enthused the 68-year-old.

FC Bayern: “Love at first sight” with Kane

Rummenigge, who was part of the transfer task force at FC Bayern last summer, sees Kane as the crucial piece of the puzzle that was still missing in 2022/2023.

“We are extremely happy with Harry. And we were convinced from the start that we needed this type of player in order to be at the top in this position again. Because the 40 to 50 competitive goals that Robert Lewandowski had guaranteed us were something the other players were able to achieve “Unfortunately we can’t compensate,” explained the ex-national player.

“It was probably love at first sight with Harry and the Bundesliga,” said Rummenigge.

Harry Kane a “leader type” at FC Bayern

Kane has already scored 21 times in his first 15 Bundesliga appearances. The former Tottenham star could surpass Lewandowski’s 41-goal record if he continues at this rate in 2024.

However, Rummenigge doesn’t want to put any pressure on when it comes to his goal record: “I think it’s still too early to speculate about the season’s best marks.”

The Lippstadt native sees Kane as a leader who can give the team a lot in the second half of the season in the fight for the next championship title and the Champions League triumph.

“He’s a leader type, no question about it, and he wants to be that too. It doesn’t put a strain on him. He likes to move forward, that’s his way, he would never think of complaining about it,” emphasized Rummenigge.
