The Direction de la santé publique de la Montérégie invites people with a chronic illness, the elderly and their loved ones to make an appointment to be vaccinated in order to be protected against the complications of the flu.
The vaccine is free for those deemed most at risk:
• people over the age of 75;
• children 6 months and older, adults and pregnant women with diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease or a weakened immune system;
• pregnant women in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy;
• people living under the same roof as a child under 6 months of age or a person at risk, as well as their caregivers;
• health care workers, particularly those providing direct patient care.
“I encourage people who are elderly or have a chronic illness to get the flu shot because it’s the best tool we have to protect them from complications that can lead to breathing and heart problems, hospitalizations and even of deaths,” says Dr. Julie Loslier, director of public health for the Montérégie.
She also suggests taking the opportunity to make an appointment to receive a COVID vaccine if it has been more than 5 months since their last dose “so that they maintain good protection against the most serious effects of the disease” . (A.D.)
