Amore True. The love story between this yacht, over 80 meters long, supposedly belonging to the Russian oligarch Igor Sechin, leader of the oil company Rosneft, and France ended with the start of “the special military operation launched by Russia against Ukraine.

On the night of March 2 to 3, 2022, barely a week after the start of the Russian invasion, theTrue lovethen in maintenance in the shipyards of La Ciotat, was indeed the first yacht to be seized by the French authorities, within the framework of the sanctions pronounced against Russia and Belarus at European level.

At the time, Bruno Le Maire, Minister of the Economy, even split a tweet in which he congratulated customs.

According to the newspaper Le Figaro of Saturday April 1 and Sunday April 2, the owner of the Amore Vero would have made a request to transfer his yacht to Toulon, “a cheaper and less secure port”. The Toulon Provence Méditerranée metropolis claims to have received no such request from the yacht. Photo P.-L. P..

Since then, the luxurious unit, flying the flag of the Cayman Islands, is still immobilized in La Ciotat. And that’s apparently not about to change.

Because if theTrue love has left the berth it has occupied until now – this is managed by a yacht maintenance company “who no longer wants to have contact with this client, for fear of Washington”can we read in Le Figaro from Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April – it’s to find yourself dry on a platform.

At the start of the year, theTrue love was actually pulled ashore thanks to the boat lift inaugurated last November.

The greatest discretion

By showing up at the entrance to the shipyards of La Ciotat, you can’t miss it. Along its 86 meters, the super-yacht completely obstructs the view of the rest of the industrial site. A rather funny scene when you know all the discretion that surrounds theTrue love.

“This is a subject on which we do not wish to comment”, declares the communication department of La Ciotat Shipyards. Another local yachting actor confirms this kind of omerta: “Nothing filters about the Amore Vero”.

Through a few indiscretions, we nevertheless learn that the yacht, on board which all or part of the crew is present, is currently undergoing work. But impossible to have more details. Except that this work is paid for by the owner.

In an email in response to our requests, the press service of the Directorate General of Customs writes: “The maintenance of frozen property remains the responsibility of its owners. The freezing procedure provides for the possible release of funds in order to pay security, gardening, maintenance companies, etc. which are structures established in France or which employ employees in France, and therefore, does not constitute, from a legal and sanctions point of view, a financing of the war effort”.

And to add: “It is not in their interest not to maintain their property, at the risk of seeing their heritage depreciate”.
