The suspension bridge cracks during the inauguration: twenty injured

The inauguration turned into a fiasco: twenty people were injured Tuesday in the collapse of a suspension bridge in Cuernavaca, in central Mexico.

Among the injured are Mayor José Luis Urióstegui, his wife Luz María Zagal, other notables and residents who were taking part in the bridge reopening ceremony.

The accident was experienced almost in real time on social networks with a video showing the guests falling two meters lower in the bed of a stream when the floor gave way.

“There are at least 25 injured,” local official Samuel Sotelo told Milenio television. “Two were hospitalized with serious injuries,” he said.
