No frost recorded during Ice Saints
These summer temperatures were measured when no frost was recorded during the traditional Ice Saints from Thursday to Sunday, SRF Meteo said in a statement. The years 2019 to 2021 had seen a sharp drop in temperature at this time.
With “a success rate between 20 and 30%”, the Ice Saints are more myth than climatic reality, continues SRF Meteo. On the one hand, it is possible that the ground will still freeze at the end of May. On the other hand, hot days during the Ice Saints are not entirely new: such cases have been regularly recorded since the second half of the 19th century.
