On the occasion of the start of the southern loop of the Olympic and Paralympic Tour of Hauts-de-Seine, Philippe Hazard, deputy mayor and head of sport and volunteering for the City of Sèvres, discusses this initiative.
Why did the municipality of Sèvres decide to participate in this TOP 92?
The City of Sèvres was labeled Land of Games 2024 in the summer of 2022. Our city will also host the Marathon during the next Olympic Games. It seemed natural to us to participate in this Alto-Séquanais event which once again reflects our wish to promote sport in Sèvres.
Sèvres is the first town in the southern loop of this TOP 92, how did the town welcome the event?
The Terre de Jeux label in the summer of 2022 was the launch of a sporting commitment through several actions implemented: for more than a year, the sports caravan has been crisscrossing the city’s neighborhoods to introduce residents to sport, in partnership with Sèvres associations. We are now the host city of the TOP 92. We are very happy to organize these events which raise awareness among the general public of the Olympic Games of course, but also of sporting disciplines and disabled sports.
Is this week in Sèvres marked by a particular theme? Are there any associations or committees that are partners in the event?
We have organized, thanks to the City services which have mobilized and to the Sévrier associations, events which can reach all audiences, from the youngest to the oldest. It is therefore a wide sporting and cultural range that has been offered to the Sèvres.
What activities are in place during the week?
During the week, there are many activities, they are cultural, physical or sporting. There is in particular the exhibition of the Mayodon vase, this vase was specially designed for the TOP 92 by the Manufacture de Sèvres, the exhibition “Extraordinary athletes: the adventure of disabled sport and adapted sport”, a sports literary selection at the Sèvres media library, school cross-country running with the city’s schools, a conference “Acting for a more inclusive sport” with the Disabled Sports Committee of 92. Other cultural activities took place at the ceramics museum with the museum free Sunday and the installation of the sports caravan in situ. I would also like to warmly thank the Ceramics Museum which immediately accepted the city’s invitation to organize the handover ceremony with the city of Meudon within its establishment.
Finally, in your opinion, what will be the impact of this TOP 92 within the city of Sèvres?
I think that the TOP 92 is a good first awareness of the Sèvres people about the Olympic Games which are arriving on our territory in just a few months. The partnership with the Manufacture de Sèvres is also meaningful for many residents who know the history of this magnificent site. This is further proof of the importance and relevance of the sport and culture duo that we promote in Sèvres.
