This Sunday, March 10, more than 160 riders will compete in the fifth edition of the Tour des 4B Sud Charente. For the first time, the event is included in the calendar of the Coupe de France for N1 clubs.
The Tour des 4B Sud Charente reaches a milestone. This year, the cycle race takes on a particular dimension as support for the French Cup of N1 clubs. This Sunday March 10, 27 teams representing 162 runners from 11 different nations will set off from Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire.
A demanding course
Created by two students in 2019, the event has grown since then. “This race, which began in the 1-2-3-J-PCo category, quickly evolved to reach national elite status from its second edition. Our persistent commitment to promoting the rich territory of South Charente through a national-scale cycling competition also translates into a sporting ambition: to offer a cycling race open to the highest amateur level., recalls the organization. In this fifth edition, the Tour des 4B Sud Charente, which will represent the opening round of the Coupe de France, will once again reserve a hilly and windy course.
Through 26 municipalities in South Charente, the peloton will cover a 177 km route. The event will start gently, joining the Né valley for a quiet introduction, before challenging numerous reliefs. “In the second part, the punchers will be at their advantage, with the formidable Nonaville hill (2.5 km at 4%, with passages at 10%) beginning more than 2300 meters of positive altitude difference on an intense sequence of climbs on 60 kilometers, without a meter of flat ground. This section will be decisive in making the selection for the final victory,” believes the organization.. Participants will then embark on a final circuit of 30 km to be covered twice. This last part of the race is intended to be less intense, even if the slope of the Montchaude washhouse could do damage. The finish will be held on Avenue Nelson Mandela in Barbezieux, the site of Pierre Bonnet’s victory in 2019. Last yearIt is Nicola Marcerou which had imposed itself.
