He was his little brother, his confidant, the one with whom he grew up and who never missed his albums, his tours, his successes and his failures… At 75, Julien Clerc has been feeling very lonely for a week. On August 15, he learned of the death of Gérard, his half-brother who had become a great journalist and who did not survive the crash of the tourist plane he was piloting and which was destined for La Baule, where he had just come to see him in concert.
A disappearance of which he was one of the first informed. Indeed, according to our colleagues from Paris Match, who devote a long subject to the accident in their new issue, it was Julie, the wife of Gérard Leclerc (and a very great voice from Europe 1) who immediately called him. The septuagenarian is still in the family home in Vienne and has just been warned that their delay is not normal and that something seems to be afoot. At this time, however, the family does not yet know what tragedy has occurred over the Loire, where the remains of the aircraft will finally be found, but are simply awaiting news of the aircraft which hasn’t given since 11:42.

At the end of the day, around 7 p.m., the journalist’s relatives and those of his three passengers were finally informed: the plane crashed, apparently very violently (some even mention a fall “in pique“) and there are unfortunately no survivors. Julien Clerc, who was to sing the last show of his tour in front of his brother, as always, quickly thinks of canceling… but in the end, will not: “I sing to tell my brother that I love him“, he even declared in front of his public, his voice tight with emotion, while reading a small speech written previously.
A gesture of courage and love for the one who saw him grow up and who was his confidant. Very close to his eldest, the journalist (who was four years younger than him) was notably one of the only ones to know that Julien Clerc, whose real first name is Paul-Alain, did not have the same mother as the five other siblings. A relationship full of “modesty” et “d’admiration” which came to an abrupt end one summer morning… but which will last a lifetime in the singer’s heart.
