In 2023, the turnover of the video game sector in Belgium increased by 21.8%, in particular because Belgians purchased PlayStation 5 consoles en masse.
The year 2023 was fruitful for the video game sector in Belgium. The turnover of the sector has increased by 21.8% compared to 2022, to reach 708 million eurosaccording to figures from the Video Games Federation Belgium (VGFB).
“This sharp increase is largely due to the explosion in sales of PlayStation 5 consoles“, specifies the general director of the VGFB, David Verbruggen. The PS5 was very little available in 2022 due to a shortage of chips, while it was the best-selling game console in 2023.
In addition to console sales, these 708 million euros also include sales of games, subscriptions and accessories, as well as global sales of video games of Belgian origin. Advertising in games and sales of derivative products and PC hardware are not included in the VGFB calculation.
