The ARD annual quiz is one of the most popular formats at the end of a TV year. In 2023, after Frank Plasberg retired, the show got a new host: Kai Pflaume presented the show for the first time. The usual candidates included: Günther Jauch, Barbara Schöneberger, Florian Silbereisen and Jan Josef Liefers. What irritated many viewers right at the beginning of “2023 – The Quiz”: Kai Pflaume used the first name of Günther Jauch.
No “you”: Kai Pflaume is allowed to use Günther Jauch’s first name
Günther Jauch usually speaks to all of his TV colleagues – even Barbara Schöneberger is the moderator via you. “There are a few people I use on a first-name basis backstage,” Jauch once revealed on Kurt Krömer’s podcast. “Thomas Gottschalk and small children are called by me.” But behind the scenes, Jauch is on a first-name basis with other TV personalities. Entertainer Anke Engelke once revealed that she was allowed to use Jauch on a first-name basis. And sports presenter Waldi Hartmann is also part of the select first-name circle. Jauch chatted to Krömer: “I can get a dozen people from the business together.” Apparently Günther Jauch once also offered Kai Pflaume the first name.

Odds duel with a clear winner: “2023 – The Quiz” wins against “Schlag den Star”
“2023 – The Quiz” triumphed on Saturday evening with great ratings. Kai Pflaume’s debut led to a ratings record. An average of 4.84 million viewers watched, reports “DWDL”. Last year there were only 4.2 million. In the young target group, the ARD quiz was even ahead of “Schlag den Star” (ProSieben). 940,000 viewers between the ages of 14 and 49 wanted to see Pflaume, Jauch, Schöneberger, Silbereisen and Liefers. With a market share of 17.6 percent, a new all-time record was set.

Big laughs: Günther Jauch as “Ken” and Barbara Schöneberger as “Barbie”
Günther Jauch thrilled the audience with his entertaining, dull manner. In the action game “Barbie Parcours” the four celebrity candidates were given outfits from the “Barbie” film. The men portrayed “Ken”, while Barbara Schöneberger received a “Barbie” costume. According to her own statements, she was looking forward to a tight, sexy dress, but instead she now looks like “Barbie’s mother,” the entertainer joked with laughter.

Günther Jauch shows himself in shorts: “My wife always taught me that”
When Jauch appeared in the studio in his “Ken” dress, the applause was huge. But the moderator apparently didn’t quite agree with his disguise. “It’s so degrading,” sighed Günther Jauch. Barbara Schöneberger answered and snorted: “Indeed.” It was also a first for Jauch to appear on German television wearing shorts. “My wife always instilled that in me,” Jauch chatted surprisingly privately. Then he stammered embarrassedly about the ban on shorts imposed by his wife Thea: “From a certain age – not even three quarters!” By that he meant the length of the pants.

In the ARD annual quiz by Kai Pflaume: Günther Jauch becomes “Tagesschau” spokesman
There was a real TV surprise about Dagmar Berghoff. The 80-year-old former news anchor was part of the “Tagesschau” game. Jauch, Schöneberger, Silbereisen and Liefers became anchors and read news from 2023 in front of the famous blue and white “Tagesschau” background. The celebrity candidates had to fill in certain gaps in the texts and were not allowed to let themselves be disturbed.

Dagmar Berghoff at the first meeting with Günther Jauch: “The man understands nothing about women”
As Jauch sat behind the news desk, Dagmar Berghoff floated down from the studio ceiling. With a rose in her hand, she wanted to charm Jauch and distract him from his reading task. “Here’s a rose for you, Mr. Jauch,” the 80-year-old repeated again and again. But Jauch did not accept this and continued to present the news. Berghoff became more energetic and addressed the audience: “The man knows nothing about women.”

Only after Jauch heard the relieving “Tagesschau” gong did he jump up from his chair. “Welcome,” he said happily and gave Berghoff two kisses. “From heaven, that’s where she came from,” he added. The studio audience responded with a standing ovation to Dagmar Berghoff’s appearance. The 80-year-old revealed: “I have never met Günther Jauch in my life.” A double premiere, so to speak.
“2023 – The Quiz” ended like last year: Florian Silbereisen was the winner. The showmaster won ahead of Jauch, Liefers and Schöneberger.
