One of the best things of November is Feast Week. But it’s a little crazy with so many tournaments. So, here’s a little guide for mid-major fans:
Vivid Seats Legends Classic – Men (Nov. 16-17)
St. Bonaventure is the lone mid-major team to head to Barclays Center. The Bonnies are part of a quartet that also features Auburn, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State.
McNeese MTE – Women (Nov. 16-18)
McNeese State hosts a three-day, round-robin event with Miss. Valley State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and UL-Monroe.
Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic – Men (Nov. 16, 17 and 19)
North Texas, fresh off its NIT championship, is part of an eight-team field in the Palmetto State. The Mean Green are joined by Dayton and Towson from the mid-major ranks. There’s also hall-of-famer Rick Pitino and St. John’s, as well as No. 6 Houston, LSU, Utah and Wake Forest.
Myrtle Beach Invitational – Men (Nov. 16, 17 and 19)
Staying in South Carolina, we move to the coast. Three conference champions are featured in the eight-team field: Charleston (CAA), Furman (SoCon) and Vermont (America East). 2023 ASUN regular season champ Liberty is there along with St. Louis, Wyoming, Wichita State and Coastal Carolina.
Arizona Tip-Off – Men (Nov. 17-19)
Three-quarters of the eight teams in the field are mid-majors. Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Purdue Fort Wayne, Northern Arizona, VMI and South Dakota square off in the desert. DePaul and South Carolina join in on the fun.
Continental Tire Main Event – Men (Nov. 17-19)
Two of the top mid-majors head to Las Vegas for a four-team event. National runner-up San Diego State and St. Mary’s meet in the first round at T-Mobile Arena. Washington and Xavier are in the other semifinal.
Bank of Hawai’i Classic – Women (Nov. 17, 19)
Four mid-majors square off in the Aloha State. Hawai’i hosts Idaho, Cal State Fullerton and Idaho.
Bahamas Championship – Men (Nov. 17, 19)
No mid-majors headed to Nassau. But if you’re interested, it’s Miami, Georgia, Kansas State and Providence.
Paradise Jam – Men (Nov. 17, 19-20)
All eight teams in the Virgin Islands tournament are mid-majors. Norfolk State, Fordham, Abilene Christian, San Jose State, Hampton, Kent State, Missouri State and Florida Gulf Coast make up the field.
Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off – Men (Nov. 18-19)
Rhode Island heads to Uncasville, Conn. The Rams are in the four-team event along with Mississippi State, Northwestern and Washington State.
Chris Paul’s HBCU Tip-Off Presented by AEA Foundation – Men (Nov. 18-19)
Staying in Uncasville, four Historically Black Colleges and Universities partake in a tournament. Cheyney, Virginia Union, Winston-Salem State and Tuskegee do battle.
Great Alaska Shootout – Women (Nov. 18-19)
We move to the Last Frontier for Eastern Kentucky and UAB. There’s also Utah out of the Pac-12 and the hosts, Alaska Anchorage, from Division II.
Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis – Women (Nov. 18-20)
Four of the eight teams in the field are mid-majors. Reigning C-USA champion Middle Tennessee leads the pack of mid-majors and is joined by Memphis, South Dakota and Memphis. They’re joined in The Bahamas by Ole Miss, Arizona, Michigan and DePaul.
North Shore Showcase – Women (Nov. 18-21)
A trio of teams head to Laie, Hi., for a round-robin showcase. Saint Louis is our spotlight team. They’re meeting Wake Forest and BYU.
Available Empire Classic – Men (Nov. 19-20)
There are no mid-majors here, so no need to check it out. But if you do, the four-team tourney features defending national champion UConn along with Texas, Indiana and Louisville.
Jacksonville Classic – Men (Nov. 19-20)
All but one of the eight teams in Florida are mid-majors. George Mason, Charlotte, San Diego State, Utah Valley, Southern Miss, Cal State-Fullerton and Cornell make up the field. UCF will also be there.
Cayman Islands Classic – Men (Nov. 19-21)
The entirety of the eight-team field is mid-majors. Oakland, Drake, Loyola Marymount, Stephen F. Austin, Marshall, Utah State, Florida International and Akron vie for the title.
Sunshine Jam – Men (Nov. 20-21)
Six of the eight participants are our kinds of teams. UNLV, Richmond, Siena, Central Michigan, Milwaukee and Stetson are in the tourney. Florida State and Colorado are also in the field.
Fort Myers Tip-Off – Men (Nov. 20, 22)
SMU is the lone representative of the mid-majors. The Mustangs have to battle West Virginia, Virginia and Wisconsin.
SoCal Challenge – Men (Nov. 20, 22)
The field is almost entirely mid-majors. Bradley, Tulane, UTEP, Cal State Bakersfield, Sacramento State, Austin Peay and Tarleton compete for the title. California is the lone team from a power conference.
Allstate Maui Invitational – Men (Nov. 20-22)
Forced to relocate to Honolulu this year, it’s always a strong field in Hawai’i. However, there are no Division I mid-majors in the field. Props to Chaminade out of Division II. Mid-Major Madness pulling for you against giants No. 1 Kansas, No. 2 Purdue, No. 4 Marquette, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 11 Gonzaga, UCLA and Syracuse.
Gulf Coast Classic – Men (Nov. 20-22)
It’s all mid-majors in Estero, Fla. Iona, High Point, Long Beach State, Illinois State, Louisiana, Weight State, Hofstra and Buffalo meet in the Sunshine State.
Cancun Challenge – Men (Nov. 21-22)
The field is eight mid-majors. James Madison, Southern Illinois, Fresno State, New Mexico State, Morgan State, Radford, Chicago State and Northern Colorado make up the field.
Savannah Hoops Invitational – Women (Nov. 22-23)
Four mid-majors head to Savannah for a pair of games. The field features Mercer, Bowling Green, Lehigh and Marist.
GSU Thanksgiving Tournament – Women (Nov. 22-23)
Georgia State welcomes in a trio of mid-majors. The Panthers will host Bethune-Cookman, Elon and Bradley.
St. Pete Showcase – Women (Nov. 22-23)
Two of the four teams heading to St. Petersburg are mid-majors. We see you Lamar and UTEP. They’ll see each other as well as TCU and Nebraska.
Hall of Fame Classic – Men (Nov. 22-23)
Colorado State and Loyola-Chicago are the two mid-majors heading to Kansas City. Boston College and Creighton will meet them there.
Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis – Men (Nov. 22-24)
Memphis and Northern Iowa are the two mid-majors in the field. They will battle against Arkansas, North Carolina, Villanova, Michigan, Stanford and Texas Tech.
NIT Season Tip-Off – Men (Nov. 22, 24)
No mid-majors in this one, so this one could be skipped. If you do wind up flipping to this Brooklyn, N.Y., event, you’ll see Baylor, Florida, Oregon State and Pittsburgh.
Vegas Showdown – Men (Nov. 23-24)
This is another one that can be overlooked due to the absence of mid-majors. RIP to BYU, who left us for the Big 12. The Cougars are joined by Arizona State, NC State and Vanderbilt.
Rady Children’s Invitational – Men (Nov. 23-24)
No mid-majors to see here. Oklahoma, Iowa, USC and Seton Hall do battle.
Cancun Challenge – Women (Nov. 23-25)
Several mid-majors make their way south of the border. UMass, Green Bay, James Madison, Montana State, New Mexico are all in the field. They will compete against the likes Maryland, Washington State, Georgia Tech, Creighton and Michigan State.
San Juan Shootout – Women (Nov. 23-25)
The event features several mid-majors, including Southern Illinois, Charlotte, Radford, Indiana State, George Washington, Appalachian State, Furman, Jackson State, Morgan State, Campbell and VCU. They’ll meet power conference teams St. John’s, West Virginia and UCF.
U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam – Women (Nov. 23-25)
High Point is the lone mid-major team in the eight-team field. Props to the Panthers. We’re rooting for them over Arizona State, Texas, South Florida, Cincinnati, Colorado, Kentucky and NC State.
Fort Myers Tip-Off – Women (Nov. 23-25)
We see you Princeton. The Tigers are the only mid-major in the eight-team field. They are seeing Indiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Boston College, Marquette and Wisconsin there.
ESPN Events Invitational – Men (Nov. 23, 24 and 26)
Mid-major darling Florida Atlantic gets in on the action in the Sunshine State. The Owls are participating with fellow NCAA Tournament teams VCU and Boise State. The power conference teams in the field are Texas A&M, Penn State, Butler, Iowa State and Virginia Tech. We could see Mike Rhoades square off against his former team in the championship game.
Georgia Southern Thanksgiving MTE – Women (Nov. 24-25)
A quartet of teams participate in the two-day event. Georgia Southern hosts Detroit Mercy, South Carolina Upstate and North Florida.
University of Denver Classic – Women (Nov. 24-25)
Four mid-majors embark on the Mile High City for a two-day event. Denver plays host to Central Arkansas, South Alabama and Nevada.
Miami Thanksgiving Tournament – Women (Nov. 24-25)
Three mid-majors take their talents to (near) South Beach. Colgate, Norfolk State and East Tennessee State travel to The U.
Daytona Beach Classic – Women (Nov. 24-25)
Eight teams embark on the Sunshine State, including seven mid-majors: Akron, Wichita State, Dayton, Stetson, Northern Kentucky, Kent State and Chattanooga. Pittsburgh is the lone Power-6 team.
Las Vegas Holiday Classic – Women (Nov. 24-25)
Four mid-majors head to Sin City. Northern Arizona, Portland, Rhode Island and Youngstown State face off in the two-day event.
Las Vegas Thanksgiving Classic/South Point Shootout – Women (Nov. 24-25)
There are eight games at the South Point Arena in Vegas. Santa Clara, Boise State and Northern Iowa are the trio of mid-majors. Rutgers, Texas Tech, Iowa State, Vanderbilt and Syracuse round out the field.
GCU Classic – Women (Nov. 24-25)
Grand Canyon hosts a trio of other mid-majors. Eastern Illinois, Nicholls and Fresno State head to W. Camelback Rd.
Long Island Tournament – Women (Nov. 24-25)
LUI welcomes three teams to the Big Apple. Hampton, New Mexico State and Cal State Bakersfield make up the field in Brooklyn.
San Diego Classic – Women (Nov. 24-25)
Four mid-majors head to San Diego for a two-day event. SMU, Harvard, North Dakota State and Toledo participate in the field.
Emerald Coast Classic – Men (Nov. 24-25)
The majority of the teams in the field are mid-majors. Santa Clara, Mercer, Tennessee State, Southeastern Louisiana and Western Michigan are in the field along with Alabama, Ohio State and Oregon.
Acrisure Invitational – Men (Nov. 24-25)
Four mid-majors do battle in Palm Springs, Calif. UTRGV, Hawai’i, San Diego and Arkansas State meet for the championship.
Nassau Championship – Men (Nov. 24-26)
It’s all mid-majors in this tourney. UNC-Greensboro, Kansas City, Brown, Delaware, Middle Tennessee, Illinois-Chicago, Ohio and George Washington vie for the title.
Gulf Coast Showcase – Women (Nov. 24-26)
The three-day event in Estero, Fla., features eight teams, including mid-majors Florida Gulf Coast, Western Kentucky, Vermont, Delaware and Purdue Fort Wayne. Iowa highlights the Power-6 teams along with North Carolina and Kansas State.
Rainbow Wahine Showdown – Women (Nov. 24-26)
For a second straight week, the Rainbow Warriors welcome a group of teams to Paradise. Hawai’i welcomes in fellow mid-majors Air Force and Idaho State as well as Washington.
Betty Chancellor Classic – Women (Nov. 24-26)
The eight-team field is split between four mid-majors and four power-conference teams. Tulsa, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Liberty and Gonzaga make up the mid-majors. Clemson, Mississippi State, Alabama and Louisville are from the power-6.
