There is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party’s parliament who is accusing him of defamation of being tweeted that he is from the “Unification Church.”

The “Unification Church” is now attracting attention again because Tetsuya Yamagami (41), who shot and killed former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, motivated him to commit the crime. It is reported that his mother made a large donation to the cult and held a grudge against the collapse of his family and attacked Mr. Abe, who has a connection.

However, at present, there is no “Unification Church” or “Unification Church of the World Christianity”. In Japan, after the death of the founder Sun Myung Moon, the name was changed to “Unification Church for World Peace,” and his wife, Hak Ja Han Moon, is the presiding officer. The “Family Union” held a press conference three days after the incident and admitted that Yamagami’s mother was a member. The media began to report all at once (in this paper, we will refer to it as “Unification Church” because it touches on its historical background).

“Many people have the impression that the Institute of Principles and the Unification Church are antisocial groups.”

Hak Ja Han Moon became the president, and one of the NGOs established in New York in 2005 is the Universal Peace Federation (UPF). So to speak, it is the front organization of the Unification Church. At an event held by this group last September, Mr. Abe sent a video message paying tribute to Hak Ja Han Moon.

Yamagami stated that he had seen this video message, and that it was his grandfather, Nobusuke Kishi, who invited the Unification Church to Japan, which was also the motive for killing Mr. Abe.

The so-called student organization of the Unification Church is the “Principle Study Group”. As an organization that studies the doctrine “Unification Principle” that Sun Myung Moon showed, it is mainly working as a university student circle and soliciting believers.

Hiroshige Seko, a member of the House of Councilors of the Liberal Democratic Party, is suing for writing that he is from the Collegiate Association for Principles. Mr. Seko served as Special Advisor to the Prime Minister in the first Abe administration and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in the second administration. He is one of Mr. Abe’s closest aides, and is said to support the backbone of the Abe faction, which is said to take a group leadership system after Mr. Abe’s death. Moreover, he is currently in a key position in the LDP as Secretary General of the House of Councilors.
