The union rejects Boeing’s “latest offer” to striking factory workers

On Monday, the US aircraft maker presented what it describes as its best and final offer to the 33,000 striking factory workers, which includes a pay rise and an annual bonus. The unions demand a wage increase of 40 per cent over three years, which is 10 percentage points higher than Boeing’s proposal.

– We present a final offer with significant improvements and which takes into account feedback from the union and our employees, Boeing said.

The union is not satisfied with the offer. The reason for the dissatisfaction is, among other things, inadequate pension schemes. The trade union also criticizes the company for not mediating with their dealers before putting forward the new proposal. The leaders of the union have warned that they will abstain from voting on the proposal.

– The proposal does not address our concerns sufficiently. Boeing has failed with this proposal, was the message from the union to its members.

There are workers on the US west coast who went on strike on 13 September. The strike is the first among Boeing employees since 2008, and is in response to a conflict over wages and pension rights.
