The Copa América 2024 that will take place in the United States will draw its group stage today in Miami, with the Argentine team as the seeded team for being the defender of the title obtained in Brazil 2021.

The event will take place at the James L. Knight Center in Miami from 9:30 p.m. (Argentina time) and will be televised by DSports and TyC Sports.

The 48th edition of the Copa América will be held between June 20 and July 14 and for the second time in history and again in the United States after the experience of the Centenario 2016, it will have 16 selected participants (10 from Conmebol and 6 from Concacaf) that will be divided into four groups.

Argentina, winner of the Copa América Brazil 2021, will lead group A; Mexico, champion of the Concacaf Gold Cup, will be in B; C will have the United States, by Concacaf ranking; and in D they placed Brazil, for being the second best South American team.

In the second bolillero there will be two selected with Argentine coaches such as Uruguay and Colombia, directed by Marcelo Bielsa and Néstor Lorenzo, respectively, plus Ecuador and Peru.

Chile, Panama, Venezuela (by Fernando “Bocha” Batista) and Paraguay (by Daniel Garnero) will make up pot three, while Jamaica and Bolivia will complete pot four.

The latter will be completed with the Concacaf 5 and Concacaf 6 balls that will come from the Canada-Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica (DT Gustavo Alfaro)-Honduras crossings, to be played on March 23 of next year.

The competition will take place in 14 venues that have already been announced by Conmebol along with the calendar.

The format

Argentina will play the opening match on June 20 at Atlanta United’s Mercedes Benz Stadium, which it will visit for the first time.

The second game of the group stage will be played on the 25th at the Met Life, in New Jersey, and the third and last on the 29th at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami, both with games played in the Scaloni cycle that began in 2018.

Then, if he passes the round in first place on July 5 in Houston (NRG stadium, with capacity for 72 thousand people) or July 4 in Arlington (AT&T, for 80 thousand people), if he is second.

The semifinals will be on July 9 again in New Jersey or on the 10th at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, for 75,000 people, which will also be the scene of the third-place match.

And the final will take place on Sunday the 14th in the most important stadium in Miami, with capacity for more than 65 thousand spectators.

Only on that occasion, according to previous estimates, Argentina could meet Brazil and reissue the clash on July 10, 2021 at the Maracaná in Rio de Janeiro.

Within the draw guidelines it was clarified that there will be no groups with more than three South American teams or with more than two Concacaf teams.

Therefore, there will be two zones with three teams from Conmebol and one from Concacaf and two groups with two from each confederation.

The draw will be attended by the president of the AFA, Claudio Tapia, and the coach of the Argentine national team, Lionel Scaloni.

The event will be headed by the head of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, and will have the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, as a special guest.
