The United States simplifies obtaining work permits 2024-03-22 05:28:08

The Employment Authorization Document (EAD), a work permit in the United States, undergoes a significant change in management times. With it, potential employers ensure that their holders are authorized to work in the country.

According to current immigration law, those foreigners who enter the United States with refugee or asylum status have the right to work as soon as they arrive in the country. However, the procedure to obtain such permission has not been easy for many in a similar situation. Bureaucracy has greatly affected a procedure that a few years ago was not so complex.

To avoid delays in the delivery of the permit, the American authorities announced a simplified process for issuing employment authorization for foreigners. It only applies to those who entered the United States as refugees on or after December 23, 2023.

The new process will significantly reduce the waiting time for an EAD. Now the margin will be 30 days instead of months, as revealed by the Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Easier process now

USCIS reported that the new process is now fully automated and no longer requires the refugee to request an EAD. This allows for more efficient processing of the adjudication of Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.

This will speed up delivery of EAD cards to qualifying asylees as soon as USCIS approves them. The immigration agency will do this from now on.

-Create a digital Form I-765 for each arriving asylee.

-Once the refugee is admitted to the US, the work permit application will begin to be adjudicated.

-Having approved the form, USCIS will send these foreigners their EAD within one or two weeks.

-USCS will send the work permit via US Postal Service priority mail to the address on file.
