The US confirms 15 attacks against targets in Yemen

Fighter jets and warships carried out 15 attacks on Houthi positions. The targets are said to have been weapons systems, military facilities and other equipment used by the Iranian-backed militia, said a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

It is this command that has the operational responsibility for US forces in the Middle East.

The attacks are said to have hit an area in Sana, the airport in Hodeida and targets south of the city of Dhamar, reports Yemeni television.

British forces also took part in the attacks, but it is not stated to what extent.

Israel carried out a major airstrike against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen less than a week ago, the day after the militia fired a rocket at Tel Aviv.

The Houthi militia controls large parts of Yemen, including the capital Sana’a. The Houthis are part of the same Iran-backed alliance as the Lebanese Hezbollah, the so-called axis of resistance against Israel.

In recent months, the Yemeni rebels have sent a number of rockets at Israel and made it clear that they will continue their attacks in solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Since last year, the Houthis have also attacked merchant ships in the Red Sea, allegedly to target ships connected to Israel.
