The US President declares California a major disaster area

US President Joe Biden announced that the state of California is a major disaster area, and ordered federal aid to cope with the effects of flooding in the affected areas.

And meteorologists have warned that central California is at risk of “catastrophic flooding” this weekend, as the eighth consecutive storm hits land unable to absorb more rain.

The most populous state in the United States has been experiencing record-breaking rainfall for three weeks, with a series of storms killing at least 19 people, according to authorities, due to floods, landslides, widespread power outages and fallen trees.
