The Government of the United States affirmed that the declarations of the president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvasobre Washington they are “outrageous” and that with them Brazil is giving up the claim of neutrality in its speeches on the war in Ukraine.
“Despite declaring itself neutral in the geopolitical dispute between the United States and China, Brazil seems to have clearly aligned itself with China and Russia.” as explained by different members of the US government interviewed by the Brazilian media outlet Folha, who affirmed that “the Brazilians have not only failed to appreciate the balance in their positions, but have adopted a clear opposition to Washington.”
“We are not pressuring Brazil not to have relations with the Xi Jinping regime or to choose one of the two countries, since the United States also has great exchanges with China”, they said, but they consider that the president of Brazil, the minister of foreign affairs, Mauro Vieira and the special advisor of Lula himself, Celso Amorim, “they have adopted a tone of antagonism against the United States.”
Added to that, members of Joe Biden’s government considered that the “most problematic” is Lula’s vision of the United States as an obstacle to ending the war in Ukraine and China and Russia as the countries that are going to finish it.
Lula’s recent statements that angered the US were made during an event in China. According to the Brazilian president, “America needs to stop encouraging war and start talking about peace. The European Union needs to start talking about peace so that we can convince Putin and Zelensky that peace is in everyone’s interest and that war, for the moment, only interests both of them.”
With these words, Lula assigned the responsibility for the long war that has been unleashed between Russia and Ukraine to the United States, which has always shown itself as the nation that seeks to reach peace.
