[15日 ロイター] – The Russian military that invaded Ukraine is using thousands of terminals from Starlink, the communications satellite service of SpaceX, the company led by American businessman Elon Musk. This was revealed in an interview with Budanov, head of the Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, published in the US newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 15th.

Budanov said the Russian military has been using Starlink to communicate “for quite some time” and that the terminals are purchased from intermediaries by Russian private companies. Intermediaries are said to be delivering devices through neighboring countries, including countries of the former Soviet Union.

The Defense Ministry’s Intelligence Directorate told Reuters on the 12th that the Russian military uses Starlink to communicate on the front lines, but did not say to what extent the devices were used.

Starlink says it has never done any business with Russia. The company did not respond to questions about whether it could completely rule out the use of Starlink by Russian forces in Ukraine.
