The Virgin of the Mountain more sambera

With a degree in Exact Sciences, he left his native Pouso Alegre in Brazil to come to Spain, where he developed his professional career as a futsal player. He led the team The Extremadura Newspaper to the Division of Honor and decided to stay in Cáceres, the city where he has lived for more than 30 years and from which, he confesses, he will never leave. Captain of another league, that of the hoteliers, he is the alma mater of Mistura, that bar on Pizarro street where Edinho Queiroz stay behind the bar.

There is a popular saying that says: ‘You are more of Cáceres than the Tower of Bujaco’. The other day, the mayor, Luis Salaya, changed it to: ‘You are more from Cáceres than Game of Thrones’. Today, set to change, let’s say: ‘You are more from Cáceres than Edinho Queiroz’.

And it is not necessary to have been born in Cáceres to be from Cáceres all your life. Even having come to the world 1,774 kilometers away, one can feel from all four sides of Cáceres. And that happens to Edinho, who has just donated a cloak to Our Lady the Virgin of the Mountain. He does it out of devotion to the patron saint and tells it like this:

“Every day I go up to the sanctuary and say my prayer. I always wanted to donate a cloak that would remember Nossa Senhora Aparecida, patron saint of Brazil». So Edinho got down to work and commissioned the nuns of Santa Clara the making of this unique garment, inspired by one of the suits of the Brazilian size.

It is made of navy blue velvet, with golden borders and two reproductions of the Brazilian flag on each side. That of Queiroz is the mantle number 168 that is added to the vast collection of the Mountain. On Wednesday, October 12, the Aparecida festival is celebrated. In her honor, the next day, Thursday, the 13th, at nine in the morning, the brotherhood waitress will take care of dressing the patron saint with the mantle of Edinho, which she will wear until October 20..

The emotion of the most recognized Brazilian from Cáceres is infinite. “It has been a dream that I have been able to make come true,” says the hotelier who has made possible the miracle that our Cacereña Bonita becomes for a few days the most beautiful sambera in the world.
