The Wealth Gap: The 10 Richest Americans Surpass the Economic Value of 106 Poorest Countries Combined

The 10 richest Americans would be worth more than the 106 poorest countries combined.

The gap between the poorest and the richest continues to widen, and this gap is amplified by the fact that the monetary value of the richest people exceeds that of the economic value of the 100 poorest countries.

Data collected by Finbold indicated that as of June 2023, the 10 richest people in the United States were worth US$1.005 trillion, or CA$1.323 trillion.

This amount surpassed the gross national product (GNP) of the 106 poorest countries combined, coming in at just US$998.2 trillion, or US$7.6 trillion less.

In the first position, we find Elon Musk, the president and CEO of Tesla, followed closely by Jeff Bezos, at the origin of Amazon, then Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle. Warren Buffett and Bill Gates come next.

“While the accumulation of wealth is not inherently negative, the gap between the richest and the poorest is symptomatic of broader structural problems within societies and the global economy. Lack of economic mobility and limited access to education, health care and basic necessities for impoverished nations further exacerbate this imbalance,” reads the statement released Thursday.
