The Weather Channel revises its interface on iOS and abandons its watchOS app

The Weather Channel received a big update last week, with a brand new interface for iPhone and iPad. It’s a small event for what remains seemingly one of the most popular weather apps and the new version goes in a completely different direction than the previous one. IBM, which owns the service, opted for a more classic presentation, with some touches that evoke an old-fashioned newspaper, particularly on the side of the titles which adopt a serif font.

The new interface of The Weather Channel app.

This choice at least distinguishes The Weather Channel from its competitors. We also find all the functions offered by the service, including a complete radar and even, for those who pay the premium subscription billed at €5.49 per month or €32.99 per year, detailed 15-minute forecasts.

On the other hand, this new version sacrifices the watchOS version intended for the Apple Watch. It must be said that this app for the Apple Watch was not up to par, but we don’t even know if it will return later. For now, The Weather Channel works on the iPhone, on the iPad and on the Apple TV oddly, as well as on Apple Silicon Macs which can install the iPadOS version.

The Weather Channel now requires iOS 16 at least, its interface is fully translated into French.
