The Weaver: Incident at Brussels Airport Delays High-Flying Antwerp Delegation’s Landing

2023-07-04 13:36:00

A plane from the Brussels Airlines company had to interrupt its landing at Zaventem on Tuesday noon, because a vehicle was in its path. On board the plane was a high-flying Antwerp delegation made up of the mayor, Bart De Wever, and the alderman of the Port, Annick De Ridder, as well as the CEO of the Port, Jacques Vandermeiren.

The pilot of the flight from Hamburg regained altitude while he was in the landing phase. Brussels Airport has confirmed that a maintenance vehicle may have been too close to the runway.

“At no time was there any danger to the passengers. The safety procedures worked and led to a ‘go around’ (go around of an aircraft on final approach for a new lap) of the plane on instruction from air traffic control”, it was explained.

The airport will conduct an investigation to determine the causes of the incident. The delegation was returning from an economic mission to the Hanseatic city in northern Germany.
