The White House rejects Hamas’ proposal for a 5-year truce with Israel

Washington – The American administration rejected the proposals presented by the Palestinian faction movement on Thursday, which include several points, including a truce with Israel for at least five years.

Commenting on these proposals presented by Khalil Al-Hayya, a member of the Political Bureau of the factional movement, in an interview with the Associated Press, John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the National Security Council at the White House, confirmed that Washington is not ready to negotiate on the basis of this initiative.

Kirby said in response to a request to clarify whether Washington believes that Al-Hayya’s proposals can be considered a reliable starting point for negotiations: “Absolutely not. There will not be a Palestinian state under the control of Hamas. It is a terrorist organization.”

At the same time, the White House representative stressed that Washington is still seeking to find a solution to the conflict in the Middle East through the establishment of a fully independent Palestinian state and peaceful coexistence with Israel.

He added: “We support the two-state solution… However, it must be achieved through direct negotiations between the two sides of the Israeli (conflict) and the Palestinian National Authority.”

Kirby added: “It appears that the factional movement is simply trying to change the ultimate goal. It can end the war now. If it believed in a state for the Palestinian people, it would not have violated the ceasefire that was in place as of October 6. [2023] “It might have laid down its weapons and released the hostages.”

The deputy head of the faction movement in the Gaza Strip, Khalil al-Hayya, had confirmed earlier today the movement’s readiness for a truce with Israel lasting 5 years or more and to give up weapons, provided that an independent Palestinian state is established on the 1967 borders.

Al-Hayya believed that the possible Israeli attack on Rafah would not succeed in destroying the faction movement.

He stressed that the faction movement had made concessions regarding the number of Palestinian prisoners it wanted to release in exchange for the release of the remaining Israeli hostages.
