On Monday afternoon, firefighters from Zakopane recorded further interventions related to hurricane winds. Trees were blown down by the wind, including: on the road leading from Zakopane to Morskie Oko. Firefighters are constantly clearing the crossing.
A tree also fell on the tourist route between Palenica Białczańska and Morskie Oko. Even though the Tatra National Park decided to suspend the sale of tickets for the trails before noon, tourists set off for Morskie Oko earlier. The situation on the trail is constantly monitored by TPN services.
Before noon, in the Olcza district of Zakopane, a strong gust of wind knocked down trees onto the car in which a young woman was driving. The injured party could not be saved.
Since Saturday, a hurricane wind has been blowing from the south in Podhale, which, together with the influx of tropical heat, brought Saharan dust. On the night from Sunday to Monday, the wind became stronger. On the peaks, wind gusts reach speeds of 130 km/h, and in Zakopane wind gusts exceed 80 km/h.
