The opinion of an infectious disease expert in the United States has been raised that it has reached a situation where it is difficult to control the spread of monkeypox.

Scott Gottlieb, former director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), told CBS that the situation could have been controlled if they had been more aggressive. .

The United States is one of the countries with the highest number of cases of monkey pox in the world. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were more than 1,800 confirmed cases of monkey pox in the United States as of the 15th. Almost every state in the United States has had at least one confirmed case.

According to former Director Gottlieb, the US policy to contain monkeypox appears to have failed, and the monkeypox virus is becoming a virus that we must continue to respond to in the future.

Monkey smallpox is characterized by symptoms such as fever and rash during infection. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the spread of this infection tends to show atypical symptoms such as anal pain, bleeding, and a rash limited to the genital area.

These symptoms, which are different from the existing ones, are believed to be related to sexual contact between men. However, since anyone who has had close contact with an infected person can become infected, experts recommend avoiding physical contact with an infected person.

Former Director Gottlieb said, “We are repeating many of the same mistakes as COVID-19.” He criticized monkeypox for missing the time of control despite being a slow-spreading infectious disease unlike COVID-19.

He added that monkeypox may already be spreading in the community. It will not spread as explosively as COVID-19, but it will continue to spread. Currently, there are 11,595 cases of monkey pox worldwide as of the 14th.
