The wood energy check is coming, are you affected by the request from this Thursday?

After a boost in favor of the most modest households that heat with fuel oil, households that heat with wood will also be able to benefit from aid to cope with the rise in the price of domestic wood (+ 30% in one year) and pellets (+100%). Here’s what you need to know.

This wood energy check comes in the form of an exceptional aid that can range from 50 to 200 €. It will be paid, subject to conditions, to households that heat with wood and may be requested from this Thursday, December 22.

How much will the aid amount be?

The amount of this “wood energy check” will be between 50 € and 200 € depending on your level of income and the type of firewood used (logs or pellets), specifies the site service-public.fr in a publication dated December 6.

Homes that heat with pellets (pellets) will be entitled to:

  • €200 for the most modest households.
  • €100 for households with slightly higher income levels.

Households that heat with logs will be entitled to:

  • €100 for the most modest households.
  • €50 for households with slightly higher income levels.

Who is entitled to this wood check?

3.4 million people heat with wood in France, according to Ademe. Among them, the most modest, i.e. 2.6 million households according to the criteria adopted by the government, will be affected by this “wood energy voucher”.

This new help should be similar to the “fuel energy check“, addressed to households whose annual reference tax income per consumption unit is strictly less than €20,000, underline the State services.

The Minister of Public Accounts specified that the “wood energy” aid would be granted to people who earn up to €2,260 for a single person and up to €4,750 for a couple with 2 children.

This aid should be combined with the exceptional energy check (from 100 to 200 €), paid automatically to the 12 million poorest households.

To request this “wood energy” aid, you will need to connect to the energy check site from this Thursday, December 22.

In concrete terms, you will need to enter your electronic filer tax number and send your invoice.

Why is the price of wood increasing?

There are several reasons why the price of wood may increase. Here are some examples :

  1. Supply and demand: as with all products, the price of wood can be influenced by supply and demand on the market. If demand exceeds supply, the price of wood may increase.
  2. Production costs: the costs of producing wood, such as transport and processing costs, can influence the price of wood. If these costs increase, it can lead to an increase in the price of wood.
  3. Policy and regulatory changes: Forest policies and regulations can have an impact on the price of timber. For example, if restrictions are put in place to protect forests or if new taxes are introduced on timber, this may lead to an increase in its price.
  4. Weather conditions: weather conditions can also influence the price of wood. For example, if a storm or forest fire destroys a large amount of wood, it may cause its price to increase due to the reduced supply.
