The World Food Program will reduce aid to refugees in Jordan

Jordan – The World Food Program confirmed that it will continue to reduce the value of aid to 410,000 vulnerable refugees in Jordan until the end of this April, “due to the lack of funding” from donors since July 2023.

He said, “The provision of this reduced assistance will only be secured until the end of April, and if other funds are not received soon, the program will also be forced to reduce the number of beneficiaries being assisted.”

The program document for last February stated that “Jordan is a low-middle-income country with a population of 11.5 million people, 63% of whom are under the age of thirty,” adding that the Kingdom is “a resource-poor country that suffers from a food deficit with dwindling energy and water resources and limited agricultural land.” .

About 640,000 Syrian refugees and 74,000 refugees from other countries were registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan as of last February.

The global program stressed that “this large number of refugees adds unprecedented pressure on Jordan’s budget, natural resources, infrastructure and labor market,” noting that the Kingdom “has linked the achievement of its national goals to a progressive approach to hosting refugees.”
