‘The world’s strongest DJ’ has passed away after more than 70 years of work.

Foreign news agencies reported that Mr.Renaldo Maria Cordero One of Hong Kong’s most influential radio hosts, nicknamed ‘DJThe strongest man in the world’, known among fans as ‘Uncle Ray’, passed away on Friday 13 January 2023 at the University of Hong Kong Medical Center of China (CUHK) at the age of 98.

Uncle Ray is regarded as an influential figure in the music industry. He helped many local artists get their start. and make pop music known to fans in Hong Kong during his more than seven-decade radio career, interviewing world-class artists such as The Beatles, Bee Gees, Bella Fitzgerald and Frank Xi. The funeral committee revealed that Uncle Ray passed away peacefully in Hong Kong surrounded by family and friends and sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as a farewell song.

Cordero was born in Hong Kong in 1924, the fifth of six children in a family descended from Portuguese immigrants. He worked as a prison warden and a bank clerk before entering themusic circle His first show, ‘Progressive Jazz’, was broadcast on Radio Rediffusion in 1949.

Cordero became a household name in the 1960s with his easy listening approach. With RTHK radio station it became popular with young people before in 1970 he started hosting the late night show ‘All The Way With Ray’ which became his signature and RTHK’s longest running show.

Uncle Ray announced his retirement in 2021, telling RTHK that he was living his best life. And he has everything he wants to have. Has done everything he wanted to do.

For the past 10 years, Cordero has been struggling with heart problems. and was admitted to the hospital in January last year after a stroke

Cordero once wrote in his autobiography that “Sharing good music with my fans makes me happy.” “I reject a world without music.”
