Theater festival with 23 premieres at 19 venues

The series of performances will open on June 14th with the Melk Summer Games. The last premiere will take place on September 1st at the Wachau Festival in Weißenkirchen. In between there are 23 premieres.

The 19 venues offer “opera, plays, musicals and operettas in the most atmospheric places throughout the country”. Both Summer Games Melk the world premiere of the commissioned work “Cassandra and the women of Troy” by Magda Woitzuck is on the performance calendar on June 14th. Two days later it starts Stage Baden with the Lehar operetta “The Count of Luxembourg” in their summer season. The following two premieres are all about love: “All We Need is Love” will premiere on June 18 at the Cultural Summer Laxenburg (Mödling district) and the romantic comedy “Shakespeare in Love” will be available from June 22 in the A Midsummer Night’s Comedy Rosenburg (District Horn) to see.

The Theater summer The Hague (District of Amstetten) shows the comedy “Ella, Ella – Lysistrata!” from June 28th about striking wives. Both Summer Games Perchtoldsdorf (Mödling district), the new artistic director Alexander Paul Kubelka makes his debut with “Don Quijote”, the premiere is on June 29th. Also the Nestroy games Schwechat (Bruck/Leitha district) are under new directorship: Christian Graf is showing “Railway Marriages” from July 1st.

On July 5, the music revue “One Vision” will premiere at the Melk Summer Games with hits from five decades of music history. “Welcome, bienvenue, welcome” is the motto of the cult musical “Cabaret” on the Baden stage from July 7th. On the same day the oratorio Elias by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy celebrates at Festival Retz (District Hollabrunn) its resumption. At the Weitra Castle Festival (District of Gmünd) “Im Weißen Rössl” is on the program, the premiere is on July 7th.

Die operklosterneuburg (Tulln district) celebrates the 25th year of its artistic director Michael Garschall with “Don Carlo” by Giuseppe Verdi. A world premiere by Peter Turrini will be presented by the Raimundspiele Gutenstein (Wr. Neustadt district) with “It must be divorced” (premier on July 13). Ray Cooney’s Funny Money is a laughing stock about the magic of money, out July 14 on the Festival Berndorf (Baden district). In the last year of his directorship, Johannes Wildner presented at the Oper Burg Gars (Horn district) Verdi’s music drama “Aida” (from July 15). The comedy “From because of Mariandl!” takes place at the original location – the Wachau. The premiere will be on July 18th at the Wachau Festival Weißenkirchen (Krems district).

Jersey Boys in Amstetten, Land of Smiles in Langenlois

The musical “Jersey Boys” celebrates on July 19 at the Musical summer in Amstetten its German-language premiere. The next day one of the greatest operetta masterpieces is heard at the Operetta Langenlois (Krems district): “The Land of Smiles” by Franz Lehar. Romance, action and gripping fencing fights will then take place in the open-air ambience of the musical “Zorro” from July 21st Felsenbühne Staatsz (District Mistelbach). The Festival Stockerau (District of Korneuburg) are relying on Nestroy’s “Der Zerrissene” this year, the premiere is on July 27th.

The operetta “Frühlingsparade” by Robert Stolz on the Baden stage continues happily and can be experienced in the summer arena from July 30th. From August 13th, the station theater “Aventura”, which was already planned for previous years and has been postponed to this year, will be coming to the Theater in the Bunker Mödling to the performance. The last premiere of the coming theater summer will be “Der Brandner Kaspar and eternal life” on September 1st at the Wachau Festival in Weißenkirchen.

Six productions can be seen this year as part of the theater festival for kids. The children’s musical summer in Lower Austria shows “Ritter Rost und Prinz Protz” from July 5th, the day after the fairytale summer in Lower Austria “Rapunzel – Neu frisiert” celebrates its premiere. The Musical Sommer teatro will be showing “Anne of Green Gables” from July 15th and “Cinderella” from July 22nd. “Don Carlo – Verdi’s opera crime thriller for children” at the operklosterneuburg will take place on July 23, as will “Berni Bernstein” at the Summer Festival in Melk.
