“Their two daughters think mum and dad have gone on a long trip”

Emergency services received a call around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Arrived on the spot, they note the extent of the damage.

A car, the only one involved, with six occupants inside, violently hit a roundabout and was propelled several meters from the point of impact. The facts occurred on the road from Aarschot to Lier at the intersection with Hazeldonk, as reported by the HLN.

Two people lost their lives, they are Wim Janssens (37 years old) and Joyce Van Roosbroeck (36 years old). They leave orphans two children, two girls aged 6 and 9. “You think it will never happen to you, but suddenly you both lost children. “Our granddaughters think mum and dad have gone on a long trip. For them, this drama is still too far away”, confide with emotion the grandparents Frans Janssens (68 years old) and Christiane Verhoeven (69 years old).

Wim Janssens was a project manager in a construction company. His wife Joyce Van Roosbroeck was an occupational therapist. “It’s the biggest tragedy we can imagine,” said his parents Dirk Van Roosbroeck (61) and Suzy Vetters (61).

The couple sat side by side in the back of a Porsche Panamera on Saturday evening. They were returning from a wedding of a couple of friends, about four kilometers away. The couple returned to sleep with friends, also present in the car. But around 3:30 am, a hundred meters from the house, they had an accident.

“When I arrived at the roundabout, I saw nothing. Then I heard someone calling for help through the bushes and I went to look. I saw a woman lying on the ground. A man got out of the car, he was covered in blood, ”explains a witness present at the scene. For Wim and Joyce, it was already too late.

The first elements of the investigation indicate that the accident was due to “excessive and inappropriate speed”.
