“There is a tendency to seek external responsibilities in internal leaks”: Government to Petro

Without hesitation, and with a direct mention of his name, the Government flatly rejected the affirmation of the candidate of the Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro, in the sense that the Executive had allegedly intercepted his work team to leak private and strategic conversations.

The spokesman was the Minister of the Interior, Daniel Palacios, who assured that Petro has a tendency to lie and that, proof of this, is that he had assured – without evidence – that the first round of May 29 was supposedly going to be postponed, something which did not pass and in which the Pact candidate ended up getting 8.5 million votes.

“Candidate Petro has a tendency to make statements that the Colombian people later realize are not true. You saw him make an announcement to the country in an irresponsible, reckless manner, that the elections were going to be suspended”, specified the Minister of the Interior.

And even, in a direct reference to a possible origin of the videos that were leaked on Wednesday night and confirm how since the Pact campaign there would be a dirty war once morest his political opponents, Palacios warned that what seems to be there is ‘friendly fire’.

“There is a clear tendency to look for external responsibilities in internal leaks,” the official emphasized.

In addition, from Cartagena –where he led the installation of the Congress of the Confederation of Assemblies and Deputies of Colombia–, the Minister of the Interior made it clear that the death threat denounced by the candidate Rodolfo Hernández will be evaluated and addressed immediately.

What Petro had said earlier is that the leaks of the internal videos of his campaign were possibly due to hacks that, without showing any evidence, tried to link with the actions of the Government of Iván Duque.
