These are the most important dates in the 2023/24 school year

The timetable must already be in place on the following day (although changes may occur later), the class representatives must be elected by October 9th (Vienna/Lower Austria/B) or October 16th. The first holidays are then at the end of October: For the fourth time, the Austria-wide autumn holidays between the national holiday (October 26) and All Souls Day (November 2) are on the agenda. Since November 2nd is a Thursday this year, many schools are likely to release the day after independently.

The Immaculate Conception (December 8) falls on a Friday this year, which means that the students automatically have a long weekend during the Advent season this year. The Christmas holidays last from December 23rd to January 7th. Applications for school grants must be submitted by December 31st.

The 2024 semester break is on the program in Vienna, Lower Austria and Vorarlberg from February 3rd to 11th. In Burgenland, Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol they fall on February 10th to 18th, in Upper Austria and Styria on February 17th to 25th.

The pupils all have Easter holidays from March 23rd to April 1st. The national holiday on May 1 falls on a Wednesday in the coming school year. The next day (May 2nd) the Central Matura 2024 begins with the exams in German, which last until May 16th (Latin/Greek). The reason for the long duration is Ascension Day on May 9th – the Thursday holiday interrupts the matriculation examination. The following Friday is also a traditional date for another school-autonomous day off as a gusset day.

The Whitsun holidays from May 18th to 20th no longer really have a holiday character: apart from the Whitsun weekend, they only consist of Whit Monday – Tuesday has been taught normally since the introduction of the autumn holidays (unless it is released autonomously by the school). The last holiday before school ends is Corpus Christi on May 30th. The following Friday, as a gusset day, is another candidate for a school-autonomous day.

The school year ends relatively early – the last day of school is June 28th in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland, and July 5th in the remaining federal states. The start of school in the 2024/25 school year is already on September 2nd and 9th, 2024.
