According to official sources, the City Firefighters traveled this morning to Arias at 2900, in the Saavedra neighborhood, due to intoxication in a privately run school. It is a building with a ground floor and three floors, and the poisoning occurred in a classroom on the first floor. The school was immediately evacuated to a neighboring square.

13 adolescents were transferred to the Zubizarreta, Tornú and Pirovano Hospitals with a diagnosis of headache, dizziness and vomiting. One of them was already discharged from the Pirovano Hospital. The other twelve are also out of danger.

Alberto Crescenti, director of SAME, said in dialogue with Radio Continental: “The boys, 13 and 14 years old, luckily are compensated. We take them to hospitals to give them oxygen. Let’s wait and see what substance was in the air.”

The City Fire Brigade Special Emergencies attended the school. Although at first it was believed that it was carbon monoxide poisoning, the substance that generated the decompensation could not yet be determined.. Primary measurements were negative for hazardous substances. Even, they assure, all the connections work correctly.

Staff continues to inspect the school and Metrogas has already been requested and is on its way to the scene. In the Buenos Aires government they warned that the controls were up to date. The last inspection carried out by the AGC was on February 17, 2022 and the school had a valid annual Metrogas certificate.
