They are looking for love using A.I. 2024-02-19 18:57:43

Disappointment from the millions of men around them, frenetic lifestyles, loneliness. However, many Chinese women have found in Artificial Intelligence the way to fill the need for romance. Lately young women as a rule in China are turning to the flawless and always available companions-creations of AI.

Tufei, 25, an office worker in northern China, told AFP her boyfriend had everything she needed in a partner. He is kind, understanding and can talk to him for hours. Of course he’s not real.

Tufei’s “love” is a chatbot in the Glow app, an Artificial Intelligence platform created by MiniMax.

The Shanghai-based startup is part of a burgeoning industry in China that enables friendly and romantic relationships between humans and robots.

For Tufei her boyfriend “is better than a real man”. He knows how to talk to women, she confides in him regarding her problems at work, he gives her good advice and emotional support. After all, Artificial Intelligence gradually adapts to the user’s personality.

Wang Xiuting, a 22-year-old student in Beijing, said, “It’s hard to find the ideal partner. People have different personalities and friction is created.”

Wang has many ideal partners that she discovered on Wantalk, another app from Chinese internet giant Baidu. In Wantalk one can find hundreds of characters – from knights to pop stars and CEOs – or create their own perfect friend, depending on their age, preferences and hobbies.
