A 9-millimeter caliber weapon would have been used by assassins to assassinate Luz Marina Delgado, transit prosecutor of Manta, who was attacked along with the person whom she asked this morning to take her to her place of work because her vehicle had damaged.
The attack took place at approximately 08:00 this Wednesday near the Elegolé citadel, located in eastern Manta, and a few meters from the prosecutor’s home, according to Patricio Almendáriz, head of the Manta Police District.
“It is the prosecutor Luz Marina Delgado, traffic prosecutor, we are talking with the prosecutors, the employees of the Prosecutor’s Office in order to know what the motivations or factors that generated this event would be,” said the police chief.
The second victim was Jefferson Mendoza, whom Delgado had asked to help her get to her office at the Manta Prosecutor’s Office.
The attack was carried out by people who were traveling in a white Kia Sportage car. After being shot, Mendoza lost control of the car he was driving and crashed into a fence.

The alerts of Delgado’s murder circulated immediately in Manta, and her companions and some of her colleagues arrived at the scene and lamented the death of the judicial official.
Residents of the Elegolé sector also lamented the incident. “Here in Manta you can no longer live, we have to be aware of everything, here the authorities do nothing,” said a resident of that sector stay.
While the heads of Police investigation units met and began investigations, Almendáriz indicated that they did not know that prosecutor Delgado had received threats, while corroborating that she did not have security as other prosecutors did.
Almendáriz replied that it could not yet be related to the incident that took place on January 31 of this year, when a box was found outside the Prosecutor’s Office building in Manta, inside which there were two decapitated roosters.
So far in 2022, 152 people have been murdered in Manabí, about 30 in the Manta Police District, which groups this canton together with Montecristi and Jaramijó.

The week before, a naval investigation agent was also murdered in Manta. Almendáriz indicated that since the crimes that have occurred in recent days, no person related to these murders has been arrested.
The news shocked the civil servants and freelance lawyers who tour the facilities of the State Attorney General’s Office.
Bernardo Delgado, a lawyer in free practice in Manta, indicated that this city is already becoming unlivable due to the facts that are being known, with violent deaths.
“I think it is the loss of a great prosecutor, it hurts a lot because we are human beings, we are all vulnerable, I do not know the causes of death, it hurts us as lawyers, as parents, as children,” said Delgado.

Paco Delgado, Fedotti’s prosecutor, said he had known his colleague Luz Marina for 25 years when they began working as freelance attorneys.
She said that she had already been working in the Prosecutor’s Office for twelve years, first as a secretary and then after winning a contest as a prosecutor.
“He was a calm person, cooperative and very loved by his family, he was the support for them, we are sorry for what happened,” said Paco Delgado.
The Prosecutor’s Office deplored the fact and rejected any attempt at intimidation. He also ratified his support for the investigative work carried out by the different tax teams in the country. (I)
