Feremka Taibeed Godínez Alfaro, who had recently been reinstated, by court order, in the position of Deputy Director General of Anti-Narcotics Information Analysis (SGAIA) of the National Civil Police (PNC) was arrested on February 21, accused of rebellion.
Godínez Alfaro had been reinstated in her position last Friday, February 16, in compliance with a court order issued by the Fourth Pluripersonal Court of Social Security of Guatemala, the Ministry of the Interior reported.
The court’s resolution indicated and ordered the immediate reinstatement of Godínez, from which she was removed in 2020.
This day, Godínez Alfaro was arrested and transferred to Torre de Tribunales, where she was approached by Prensa Libre and mentioned that last Tuesday they issued an arrest warrant for her for rebellion issued by the Third Pluripersonal Court of First Criminal Instance.
He criticized that the arrest warrant was entered last Tuesday and that it became effective in one day.
“I want to tell you that this started four years ago, I can no longer stand this political persecution that has been done to me, this criminal persecution, but here I am, here I am showing my face, and as I have always shown it,” Godínez commented.
She urged international institutions, due to the fact that she is a woman, to support her to end the persecution they have against her, since it is not possible that three days after she took office as deputy anti-narcotics director, having the track record and contributing to the country, Now his capture is ordered.
She recalled that four years ago there was a case against her in which she was accused of supposedly being the head of a drug trafficking structure, but she stated that this is not the case.
He reported that the file against him was for breach of duties and illegal trespass.
The case
According to authorities, Godínez, in the position of deputy anti-narcotics director, supposedly had her security agents carry out raids in Villa Nueva and take the car assigned to her.
Two or three days later, Villa Nueva police investigators requested raids following reports of retail drug crimes and other illicit crimes.
When conducting the search, residents in the area reported that raids had already been carried out in the place and there they realized that the first ones were illegal.
The investigation determined that the illegal searches had been carried out by anti-narcotics agents, including the pilot and security for Deputy Director Godínez, and that is why the arrest warrants were issued against Godínez and anti-narcotics agents.
They carried out two orders
According to the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, in the case of Godínez, two court orders were complied with, since in the first instance she was reinstated, through the order of a judge, in the position she occupied.
While his arrest was carried out in compliance with an arrest warrant that was issued for non-compliance for failing to appear at a hearing before a judge. However, this had not been uploaded to the National Civil Police (PNC) system when she was reinstated in office.
“In 2020 she was linked to a legal process for illegal raids, later in her legal process she did not attend a hearing and the judge declared her in absentia, and based on this a person who is linked to a process and does not attend the hearing without any explanation, an arrest warrant was issued and this order was issued on February 8,” said Jiménez.
He added that “we gave her possession on Friday in terms of the judge’s order, that she had to be reinstated to her job, an issue that is not linked to the other issue, and today the arrest warrant was applied, because “We had the indication of the judicial system.”
“Not doing either of the two things, that is, not giving him possession or not complying with the arrest warrant, is an issue of contempt from the perspective of the authority, which in this case is me. That is the route of what happened with Mrs. Godínez,” Jiménez concluded.
