The authorities of San Bernardino County, located in Los Angeles, confirmed the death of British actor Julian Sands, who had been missing since last January while hiking through a mountain range in the region.
This was reported after the analysis of human remains found last Saturday in the area, days after the search for the actor recognized for films such as The Naked Banquet, Arachnophobia, A Love in Florence and Goodbye to Las Vegas, among others, intensified.
“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023 has been completed and it has been positively identified as Julian Sands, 65, of North Hollywood. The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results. We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands”, detailed a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Forensic Department, which replicates the specialized site Variety.
Sands had gotten lost on Jan. 13 while hiking in a snow-covered area east of Los Angeles when a storm blew up, causing a few avalanches.
Despite the fact that the actor was an experienced hiker who had made excursions through the Alps, the Andes and Alaska, according to what he himself had told in an interview, the area and the climatic conditions made this mountain range a place of high risk.
In fact, days before his foray there, Crystal Paula González-Landas, known as “the queen of hiking”, had died in that place from a fall.
“He took a risk. It has always been like this: wild, extreme, adventurous; never limited by rules or limits. He is happier near the top of a mountain on a cold morning, ”Nick Sands, the actor’s brother, had commented to the press a few hours after his disappearance.
In addition to the aforementioned titles, Julian Sands was also known for his portrayal of Jor-El, Superman’s father, in the Smallville series and for his role as the terrorist Vladimir Bierko in 24.
Despite the fact that recognition came to him in 1985 for his participation in “A love in Florence”, he would soon stand out in more sinister profile roles such as Ken Russell’s Gothic and The Witcher.
