There was in Chos Malal a finding of great paleontological importance. They found the first fossil remains of dinosaurs.
“It is the first find of its kind in the Chos Malal area. Due to their size and shape, it can already be said that they belong to a dinosaur,” highlighted paleontologist Mateo Gutiérrez.
He described in dialogue with Diario RíO NEGRO that they were found in the Rayoso formation, from the Lower Cretaceous. So the dinosaur found is over 100 million years old.
He indicated that the material is bones “that are very weathered”, almost a meter long.
He explained that remains of marine invertebrates and prehistoric marine reptiles have already been found in the area. He deepened that the novelty of the new discovery is that it is the first time that fossils of reptiles that inhabited the Mesozoic era have been found.
In accordance with what is dictated by provincial law 2184, the fossils will be deposited in the paleontological museum closest to the place of discovery.
